There have been spotted more than 150 species of birds in this area, so it is a very interesting place for bird watching. There are books available about bird watching and a telescope is available for a better view.

For a romantic touch on your stay here, you can order a breakfast on bed (also if it is meant to be a surprise). And of course we can satisfy your special wishes.

This is a very special place for mountain biking, because of the differences in heights, the dirt roads and the beautiful views in these surroundings. There are mountain bikes available for a small breakage fee to lend.

::Panorama 4 x 4 Tour::

Like it is with mountain biking it is a real nice surrounding for a 4x4 Panorama tour. The tour will last for 2 hours in which you can see the rural African life. The tour is undoable with a normal car and there will be two river crossings. If the weather is clear you can see the coast, on the top of the mountains you will have a 360 degree view (inclusive a drink).

::Primary School Visit::

Visit a South African primary school on the outskirts of KwaDukuza and experience the South African way of farm style schooling. During your visit you will get a full tour off the school, you have the availability to go into the class rooms & speak with the children & teachers of the school, you will get the opportunity to do a fun activity with the children. This tour need to be booked upfront and can’t be done during school holidays ore exam periods. You can also get a little view into our community project: The After School Club.

To give a little sportive idea to your visit on Wellvale, there is a net available for playing volleyball or badminton. Ask your hosts for the availability of rackets and some balls.

::Walking Trails::

There are paths available on the resorts to do a nice walk and to get a small view of the way of farming in South-African style. By doing this walk you can experience the beautiful Flora & Fauna of Kwazulu-Natal.

Tekstvak: ::Amatikulu Nature Reserve:: 
This nature reserve is situated on the Indian Ocean coastline in Northern KwaZulu-Natal between the Tugela and Amatikulu River mouths. The Reserve is approximately 100 km from Durban and is one of the few places in Southern Africa where wildlife can be viewed feeding on forested dunes overlooking the sea. Visitors can indulge in a variety of game drives (4X4 required) and self-guided walks through the many vegetation types found in the reserve. The Coastal Forest grasslands and rivers attract much birdlife, including the rare African fin foot, and populations of giraffe, zebra, waterbuck and smaller antelope occur in the reserve. Other activities include canoeing on the Amatikulu Estuary and Nyoni River and easy access to the beach where surf angling is good. Canoes are available for hire at R50 per day or part thereof and birders can hire trained bird guides from the local community.

::Animal Flag Farm::

Close to Stanger there is a children animal farm, one of the best rated of its kind.  The farm is fun outing for the whole family, with pony rides, free range of animals, picnic sites and a tea garden. It is opened every day from 9 to 16:30.

::Chief Albert Luthuli Museum::

The Luthuli Museum is one of the north coast’s best kept secrets, and a trip out to Groutville will reveal this gem of a national treasure. The Museum has been established in 2004 in the historic home of Chief Albert Luthuli who was President-General of the African National Congress from December 1952 until his death in 1967 and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1960. The home was a meeting place for people linked to South Africa's freedom struggle during the years of Luthuli's banishment.

Casea Charters is a family run deep sea fishing charter operating from the picturesque coastal town of Umhlanga, just 15 minutes north of Durban, South Africa. This museam covers the history of Stanger (DuKuza) and Shaka’s history and sugar. This museum contains the Shaka Memorial Garden too, which is a Memorial erected over Shaka’s grave in 1932 by the Zulu nation. The museum is placed in Stanger.

Tekstvak: ::Harold Johnson Nature Reserve::
This reserve was proclaimed in 1967 and is 100 hectares in extent. Set on the south bank of the Thukela River, the reserve is 6 km from the river mouth on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Wildlife species which occur include zebra, bushbuck, impala, blue, red and grey duiker, velvet monkey, slender mongoose, white-tailed mongoose, banded mongoose and porcupine. Birdlife is abundant with almost 200 recorded species. The reserve has an interesting variety of indigenous thornveld flora which attracts 114 recorded species of butterflies. There are also 7 km of nature walks, one of which, the "muthi" trail, provides an interesting insight into the medicinal uses of various plants used traditionally by the Zulu people. A booklet on this trail may be purchased at the office. The picnic site has a commanding view of the Thukela River. A cultural museum at the picnic site portrays the traditional dress and customs of the Zulu people. Included in the reserve are the national monuments of Fort Pearson and the Ultimatum Tree which commemorate the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.

If you are interested in learning about the history of King Shaka, this is the place to be. The visitors centre is situated in Stanger and has well researched information on this great leader of the Zulu’s. A 10 minute Audio Visual presentation of the history of King Shaka can be viewed and there is also a small curio shop and an Interpretative Centre.

::Leanna’s Fine Art for all::

Leanna’s fine art for all is a beautiful local art gallery. If you’re interested in the local arts this is the place to be, it is a gallery with a broad horizon, while it’s making mirrors, framings, prints and original arts! The gallery can offer you a light lunch and some coffee too.

The Luyt Brewery is nestled in the heart of Ballito, making it particularly accessible to beer lovers up and down the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. ::Mavivane Execution Cliff::

According to legends, King Shaka had his enemies killed and thrown them off this cliff. The Mavivane Execution Cliff is on the outskirts of Stanger (KwaDukuza).

Give a present with a difference or treat yourself to a micro light flip along the Dolphin Coast. The Ballito Microlight School operates 7 days a week, weather permitting.
Flights leave from the school and are generally either 15 or 30 minutes long. You will take in magnificent views of the rolling fields of Natal Green Gold, the stunning coastline, and if you are really lucky, might even spot dolphins, turtles or whales as you fly over the Indian Ocean and back again.

::Observation Rock from King Shaka::

According to legends, Shaka used to sit on this rock and watch his Impi training from his three nearby military establishments. This rock is situated in the Groutville area.

This is the place to learn how to surf. You can get surfing lessons on the beach, by qualified surf instructors. We do have the excellent equipment and do also weekly & weekend surf camps. Surfers normally refer to a Secret Spot, as their secret surf break & you can learn to surf here for affordable rates in the warm waters of the dolphin coast.

::Secured Beach::

The secured beach is situated along the coast between Durban and Richard’s Bay. This beach is secured by a sharks net which protects the beach from sharks, the whole coastline is also secured by lifeguards. The closest beach to the Wellvale Private River Resort is the Blythedale Beach.

Shakaland is beautifully situated in the Entembeni hills with a wide view of the bushland and the quiet Pobane lake. Visitors can - by appointment - take part in a guided tour of the Zulu village, where Chief Malinga and his family live. The traditional "Umuzi" consists of several Zulu round-huts building a circle around the cattle kraal. During the tour the social system and the way of life of the Zulus explained, their rites and costumes and the meaning of their clothes and ornaments. Their fighting technique and various crafts are being demonstrated. Afterwards one can taste the Zulu beer and join in a traditional meal.

Royal Natal was proclaimed in 1916 and contains some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Africa. The main feature of the Drakensberg area is the Amphitheatre, a rock wall about 5 kilometers in length and approximately 500 meters in height. Once in Drakenberg you can do a lot of activities, like hiking, trout fishing, horse riding, picnicking and many more. And when you’re around Drakensberg you cannot forget the Sani Pass.

::Durban Botanic Park::

The Durban Botanic Gardens is proud of its orchid collection and the orchid display house, which is open free of charge throughout the year. The Durban Botanic Gardens is the oldest surviving botanical garden on the African Continent. The Gardens is an inspiring venue for photography, painting, fashion, theatre, music, children’s plays, learning about the natural world, tourism and is also home to the city’s best horticultural library. All work is done by volunteers and the profits are donated to the KZN Anti-TB Association.

About 260 km from Ballito, this park offers all of the big five. Elephant herds are commonly seen and lion and cheetah can also be spotted. Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park is also one of the oldest wildlife reserves in Africa. It is most famous for saving the Rhino species from extinction and it is still one of the best places to experience up-close-and-personal encounters with both Black and White Rhino.

::iSimangaliso ( St. Lucia ) Wetlands Park::

This park is situated on the north-eastern coast of KwaZulu-Natal, considered a South-Africa’s third largest park. It compromises 328000 hectares with an impressive 280 km of coastline, it stretches north to Mozambique. St. Lucia is considered the most definitive Eco-tourist experience. This Natural World Heritage site is a macrocosm of culture, wildlife, plant-life, minerals and scenery. It is so diverse that many visitors return year after year and still return for more. The lake is filled with over a thousand hippos, several thousands of crocodiles, 112 species of fish and over 500 species of birds. The spirit of Africa is alive in St. Lucia!
